RE: New Roo/Shamrock Floor Plans

The 233 is challenged for storage to begin with, but to lose the wardrobe is is big loss! Not worth it in my opinion.

RE: 1st trip questions and happenings

I prefer to offload grey water into a tote periodically rather than fill up the landfill with paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, etc.
I have a 10 gallon blue tote and usually have to use it after 3 or 4 days (no showers).

RE: Questions before crossing to U.S.

A couple of weeks ago I brought burgers, milk, dog food, apples (with USA stickers on them), OJ, cheese, chicken, etc. Didn't matter though, since I didn't get one question about it from the US Customs guy. The list I had printed from the US Border website listed all those items as OK, sort of. Their disclaimer at the end said that the list can change at any minute.

RE: Airtabs...any experience out there?

I had them on my old 18' unit, but since it towed true to begin with I didn't notice any improvement in stability. Gas milage improvement was 0.5 mpg at best. I think they are really intended for longer trailers driven for more miles. They were initially made for big rigs and RVs were an afterthought.

RE: Ford Edge - What kind of camper??

you have to subtract the weight of any cargo, passengers and the amount of pounds the driver weighs over 150, from the 3500 amount.
so 3 passengers averaging 150lbs. reduces the tow rating to 3050. 50lbs. of cargo reduces it to 3000lbs.
Maybe. Some vehicles account for passengers and cargo in their rating and some don't. Check your owners manual.

RE: Help with choosing a HTT

The unloaded vehicle weight of the Roo 233 is 3900lbs and the GVWR is 4800lbs. No slide but has 3 bunks.

RE: Extended Warranties

Also something to remember. If you are including the warranty cost into your financing arrangement for the trailer, you are now going to be paying interest on the price of that warranty. So a $2000 warranty will actually end up costing a lot more. Another reason to pass on it.

RE: Montgomery County, MD RV ban

Also most people don't reflect very much on the individual freedoms we have lost over the years for our own good.Ask the British, Canadians and Australians how that is working out for them!!
Hunh?
I don't have any laws telling me I can't park in my own driveway - property I own.

RE: Black Water Tank Doesn't Drain Well?

I also heard of a couple of Jaycos that had a problem with their valve. It was not opening all the way, so it would take a long time to drain. From what I remember the owner had to replace the valve.

RE: First trip and ALL RAIN

For me...3 trips, all rain.
At least at Lakeport the roads are all paved so things don't get to messy. Nice, clean park. Not enough trees in the campground, but very nice considering.

RE: Engineers search for fuel-saving big rigs

I put AirTabs on my last trailer. However, I don't think the rig was long enough (18ft), nor did I drive it enough yearly to notice a difference. Might have increased overall fuel economy by about 0.5mpg. Originally they were designed for big commercial rigs that are much longer and larger and are on the road all the time. They would see real cost savings. The company saw another potential market and started advertising to RVers. But I'm not going to buy them for my new rig...don't think I'd see the cost-benefit before I moved up in 5-7 years.

RE: Towing ability

If you look in your owner's manual, you'll notice that the 3800lb rating includes the driver and 1 passenger and all their luggage. The rating drops to 3500lbs with the driver, 3 passengers and all their luggage (at least that's what my owners manual said).
However, a little further on in the same manual, it also states a surface area restriction for what is being towed, which rules out hybrids and TTs. However, it hasn't stopped many people from pulling small HTTs all over the place. Pay attention to weights, get a good weight distribution hitch, a quality brake controller and take it easy.
Also make sure you've got an auxiliary transmission cooler installed to save your tranny.

From what I can recall, it just has one seal. Have not had any leak problems so far. It has been through all kids of weather in its first 2 months.

Look for Kodiak dealers too, since they are pretty close to the same thing. There's a Kodiak dealer in Brownstown Michigan, Erie Michigan and Sarnia Ontario.
